UNICEF donates over 200 thousand doses of "omicron-specific" vaccine against COVID-19 to Ukraine

UNICEF has delivered 203,000 doses of Pfizer's updated COVID-19 vaccine, focused on the Omicron variant, to Ukraine, which will be used for booster vaccinations in all regions.

Updated version of the vaccine from the American company Pfizer against the Omicron strain of coronavirus, has been delivered to Ukraine by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and will be distributed among all regions. This was reported by UNN with reference to the press service of the of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

203 thousand doses of the "omicron-specific" COVID-19 vaccine for free vaccinations were delivered to Ukraine by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF). This is an updated version of the Comirnaty vaccine from the American company Pfizer, adapted specifically to protect against the "Omicron" strain of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. It will be distributed among all regions

According to of Ukraine's chief sanitary officer, Ihor Kuzin, the vaccine will be available at the level of each But more than 200 thousand doses of the vaccine delivered by UNICEF are intended for booster vaccination of those who have already received the primary course of vaccination against COVID-19.

Currently, 13 strains of the SARS virus are circulating in Ukraine. There are currently more than 13 strains of the SARS-CoV-2 virus circulating in Ukraine. Ihor Kuzin urged everyone to take care of their health and strengthen their immunity, especially this applies to people at risk, those with weakened immune systems or comorbidities, and those over 60 years of age.

In total, since the beginning of the epidemic season, which began in Ukraine in October, more than a million Ukrainians have contracted SARS, influenza, and COVID-19. The general recommended course of primary vaccination against COVID-19  is three vaccinations. 

It is noted that 203 thousand doses of the updated vaccine were received by Ukraine as part of the the international initiative COVAX, which works with governments and manufacturers to to ensure access to COVID-19 vaccines around the world.
