Ukraine's accession to the European Union will not pose significant financial difficulties. This was stated by European Commissioner for Budgetary Affairs Johannes Hahn in an interview with the Funke media group, UNN reports.
Details
According to Hahn, Ukraine's planned accession to the EU may require an increase in the EU budget of up to 20%. However, such an increase will be necessary if the current rules for agricultural aid and structural support within the EU are maintained.
This corresponds to only 0.2% of European economic output, and it is certainly possible. It is a worthwhile investment because Ukraine has enormous economic potential
He clarified that a 20% increase in the budget under current conditions would mean an additional 200 billion euros over the seven-year EU budget period.
Recall
Ukraine expects to start accession negotiations with the EU in June 2023 on the basis of a gentlemen's agreement with most EU countries.
