German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has announced talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. However, Scholz does not expect any result from them, DW reports, UNN writes.
Details
It is noted that Scholz intends to talk to Putin to "unfreeze" the contact.
The German chancellor said that the date of the "supposed" conversation with the Russian leader has not yet been set, and that he does not expect to reach any agreement with the Russian president as a result.
One cannot act on principle: "I'll have coffee with him and eventually we'll agree on something," Scholz said.
According to him, it does not seem that Putin "is ready to take part in something". The German chancellor urged Putin to take a step towards a peaceful resolution of the conflict and withdraw his troops from Ukraine.
The last time the leaders of Germany and Russia spoke on the phone was on December 2, 2022. Scholz has repeatedly said that he is fundamentally ready for dialogue, but that Putin's initiative is also needed.
Supplement
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz named six important policy areas. In his opinion, these are the consequences of the climate ruling and the transformation fund, actions against illegal migration, accelerating planning, reducing the electricity tax for companies, and solidarity with Israel and Ukraine.
