Protests by Belgian farmers in Brussels turned violent, with police using water cannons and tear gas against demonstrators who threw manure, eggs and fireworks, injuring two police officers and a firefighter.

Two police officers were injured during a protest in Brussels during a farmer's demonstration in protest against the European agricultural policy. This was reported by UNN, citing Algemeen Dagblad and Politico.

Violent farmer protests erupted in Brussels on Tuesday. Angry farmers set fires and pelted emergency workers with manure, eggs and fireworks.

Around 250 tractors arrived in Brussels early Tuesday morning for a new demonstration against policies they say are hurting their businesses. As specified by the media, the farmers' protest took place in the neighborhood of Wetstraat and Luxembourgplein. It is emphasized that the atmosphere at Wetstraat was the most heated.

Farmers started several fires, including at the Shuman metro station, using straw and car tires, and threw manure, eggs and bombs at the press and security forces.

Two police officers were injured and taken to the hospital, a firefighter was also slightly injured.

Police said one person was arrested "for throwing Molotov cocktails at law enforcement officers" and that "several projectiles were thrown at firefighters and law enforcement officers.

Police repeatedly used water cannons and tear gas to put out fires and keep protesters at a safe distance.

Tear gas was used and tractors were immobilized because people wanted to use the tractors to suppress the position of the police (...) In addition, a considerable amount of car tires, straw... were set on fire in various places.

Belgian Interior Minister Anneliese Verlinden condemned Tuesday's riots, saying "violence, arson and destruction" were "unacceptable.
