Hungarian Prime Minister Balázs Orban's political adviser warned that the decision to start negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU is only the beginning. Over the next few years, Kyiv will need to get about 70 unanimous decisions from the EU.

The European Council's decision to start negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU is only the beginning. In the future, Europe will have to make several dozen unanimous decisions for this purpose. This was stated by the political adviser to Hungarian Prime Minister Balazs Orban, reports UNN

Details

According to him, despite the decision of the European Council, Hungary still considers Ukraine not ready for negotiations with the EU. However, since the rest of the EU members disagree with this, Hungarian representative Viktor Orban decided to leave the meeting room.

The prime minister's adviser explained that Hungary was trying to avoid cooperating on a "wrong decision". At the same time, he emphasized that Ukraine would face long discussions among the EU member states in the future.

The European Council's agreement is a decision of principle. Subsequently, member states must also unanimously agree on a specific framework for negotiations. In addition, to approve Ukraine's accession to the EU, at least 70 unanimous decisions will have to be made over the next few years

- emphasized Balazs Orban, an adviser to the Hungarian prime minister.
