Kyiv honored service dogs and dog handlers with an award ceremony and a calendar to raise funds for bulletproof vests for dogs.

The capital hosted an award ceremony for service dogs as part of the "Dogs are Heroes of Ukraine" project, where, among other things, a calendar dedicated to a service dog and its handler was presented. All the money from the sales of the calendar will go to bulletproof vests for rescue dogs, according to the Interior Ministry, UNN reports.

Details

"Service dogs were awarded in the capital as part of the Dogs Are Heroes of Ukraine project. Among them are furry heroes serving in the State Emergency Service, the National Police, the National Guard and the State Border Guard Service. The project was organized by the Samaritan Dog Handlers Union of Ukraine. It includes a calendar, each month of which is dedicated to a service dog and its handler," the statement said.

It is noted that among the four-legged friends there are those who work at checkpoints, in the combat zone, and during emergency response. Among them are those who worked in the Kherson, Kharkiv, Kyiv and Mariupol regions. And also those who were captured by the invaders.

Earlier it was reported that all the money from the calendar sales will go to bulletproof vests for rescue dogs. Border guard Alina Panina and her four-legged assistant Roxy became the October animal of 2024.

"The dog named Roxy is Alina Panina's third dog handler. The first two, Sonia and Jersey, were captured by Russia together with a border guard after defending Azovstal. She divided her food portion among three people - herself and her two four-legged friends. The girl left Azovstal together with her four-legged defenders, with whom she fell into the hands of the occupiers. The animals were never returned to her," the Interior Ministry reported.

Recall

In Kyiv, as part of the Dogs for Heroes project, a ceremony was held to award dog handlers with service dogs from the state authorities of Ukraine's security and defense sector. In particular, the team of Police Captain Vitaliy Lytvyn and his faithful shepherd dog "Kate", who are well-known to Kyiv police officers, were honored.
