The Lithuanian Seimas has approved amendments to the law on public procurement, which provide for the permission of organizations to purchase and use drones that use components from Chinese manufacturers for testing or transfer to other countries. This is reported by lrytas.lt, according to UNN.
Details
After the discussion, 75 MPs voted in favor of the draft law, 2 abstained, and no MPs voted against it. The Sejm's Economic Committee, having slightly adjusted the draft, approved it by consensus.
The proposal stipulates that organizations can transfer purchased drones with Chinese components to support Ukraine, which is fighting Russian aggression.
Due to the shortage of weapons and ammunition in Ukraine, drones have become an important part of the war effort.
Since such drones or other products will not be used in the activities of procurement organizations important for security, such exceptions will not harm the national security interests of the country.
The initiators of the project say that currently, security-critical organizations cannot buy goods whose manufacturer or controller is registered in China because they are considered unreliable, even if the goods are used only for testing or transferred as support to other countries.
