The blocking by the US Congress of an aid package for Ukraine aimed at countering Russia's war is "shocking," Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said on Tuesday during a briefing for foreign media, UNN reports citing Lemonde.
"What is really important and what shocks us is that no decision has been made yet. We are approaching the end of March, and discussions are ongoing," Kuleba said.
The $61 billion aid package for Ukraine, approved in mid-February by the US Senate, is still being blocked in the Republican-majority House of Representatives. Mike Johnson, Speaker of the House, opposes consideration of the bill in the absence of additional measures to combat illegal immigration at the Mexican border.
US House Speaker Mike Johnson has warned Republican senators that the chamber will prepare its own draft to help Ukraine, but it will differ significantly from the foreign aid package that the Senate passed last month. He floated the idea of turning it into a loan program or a land-linked loan.
