Russian propagandist Svetlana Burtseva, who worked for a Kremlin-controlled media group under EU sanctions, was detained in Estonia. This is stated in the report of Eesti Ekspress, reports UNN.
Details
Burtseva has Estonian citizenship and is a co-owner of Baltnews. The publication is associated with the propaganda media group Rossiya Segodnya, run by the well-known Ukrainophobe Dmitry Kiselev.
Burtseva has been behind bars since early March. Law enforcement officials suspect her of violating international sanctions. In early April, the court is to decide whether to extend her detention or release her.
In addition, law enforcement officers brought a new charge against Burtseva under the article "relations against the Republic of Estonia" of the country's penitentiary code.
Burtseva previously worked for another Russian project, Sputnik Eesti, which was closed in 2019 due to sanctions. In 2023, she joined the Koos party, one of whose leaders, Ivo Peterson, is on trial for treason.
