The foreigners tried to illegally cross the Russian border with Finland but were stopped, says Murmansk Region Governor Andrei Chibis.

In the Murmansk region of Russia, authorities have stopped an "attempt to break through" of the Russian border by foreigners who arrived in the region to transit to Finland. This was announced by the governor of the region Andrey Chibis, Medusa reports, reports UNN.

Yesterday there was already a case of an illegal attempt to break through the border by foreign citizens. It was, of course

Governor Andriy Chibis added that the regional authorities are taking all necessary measures to ensure law and order in the Murmansk region, regardless of the "unfriendly and provocative actions that Finland allows itself, by closing the checkpoints."

The day before, Chibis said that in the Murmansk region, a high alert regime was introduced a high alert regime in the Murmansk region due to Finland's closure of almost all border border crossings with Russia. The governor noted that this decision will lead to the fact that in the the region "the number of foreign nationals wishing to enter a NATO country through Russia is likely to increase many-fold."

Background

Finnish authorities have decided to close almost all checkpoints on the border with Russia (except for one in the Murmansk region) due to the growing number of of third countries trying to cross the Finnish border without the necessary documents. At the same time, the Finnish Border Guard noted that earlier Russian border guards did not let people through if they did not have the necessary documents, but the situation has changed recently.

On November 20, the Finnish government decided to close  the four southernmost checkpoints on the eastern border. These were Vaalimaa, Nuijamaa, Imatra and Niirala, located in southeastern Finland.
