If power outages in Ukraine continue at the current level, it will lead to higher food prices. First and foremost, we are talking about dairy, meat, and bakery products. This was announced by the deputy head of the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council Denys Marchuk during a press conference on July 16, UNN reports.
"Schools for preparing (farmers for power outages - ed.) began in the fall of 2022, when certain blackouts began. But now the situation is more difficult... We understand that the strikes have led to serious energy losses," Marchuk said.
According to him, livestock farming is particularly affected. The entire dairy farm is connected to the power grid, because all processes - from milking to milk storage - require electricity.
As Marchuk pointed out, an average farm of 500 heads needs up to 100 kW per hour, and this requires significant amounts of diesel fuel. Accordingly, the cost parts are growing.
