The European Union countries have agreed on the 12th package of sanctions against Russia, the European Council said on Thursday, UNN reports.
"The European Council welcomes the adoption of the 12th package of sanctions," the European Council said in its conclusions.
The fact that EU leaders agreed on the 12th package of sanctions against Russia was also reported by the head of the Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak. He indicated that the new package may concern the export of welding machines, chemicals, defense technologies and software licensing. "It is very important that it is planned to introduce an embargo on Russian diamonds," Yermak said in Telegram.
According to him, McFaul-Yermak's group is actively working with our partners and a number of proposals will be included in this package.
"There is hope that it will be officially adopted in the coming days," the head of the OP said.
According to Reuters, the new sanctions package includes an outright ban on imports of Russian rough diamonds starting January 1 and a phased ban on imports of diamonds from third countries starting in March, as agreed with the G7.
Other measures include a stricter requirement to provide evidence from companies claiming to be complying with the G7-imposed ceiling on Russian oil prices. The package also added measures to prevent Russia from obtaining dual-use goods by forcing EU companies to sign contracts with counterparties for certain products that prohibit re-export to Russia.
A notification procedure was also included for Russian citizens or organizations in Russia wishing to transfer more than €100,000 from the EU.
Radio Liberty's Europe editor, Rikard Jozwiak, said that on the second anniversary of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, "an attempt will be made to pass another one, but it may be the last one for some time."
