NNEGC Energoatom and Westinghouse have signed an agreement to build Europe's first AP1000 reactor, which will be installed at Khmelnytsky NPP. It will have the largest capacity in Ukraine - 1100 MW.

Energoatom and Westinghouse on Sunday, December 17 December, signed an agreement on the purchase of a reactor unit for Europe's first nuclear power unit based on AP1000 technology. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Energy, according to UNN.

Details

The agreement was signed in Kyiv by Petro Kotin, President of Energoatom, and Patrick Fragman, CEO of Patrick Fragman, CEO of Westinghouse Electric Company.

There were no such reactors in Ukraine, there are none in the post-Soviet space, and not yet in Europe. This is one of the most advanced technologies in the nuclear power industry, which makes it possible to maintain safety of nuclear power plants even in the event of blackouts and the absence of diesel generators or other power systems

- commented Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko.

AR1000 will be power unit No. 5 of Khmelnytsky NPP and will have the largest capacity in Ukraine - 1100 MW. The plant currently has two nuclear VVER-1000 nuclear reactors, and two more are under construction.
