The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday at around 8 p.m. Police arrived at the scene.
"It was noticed that a capsule with inscriptions in Russian was attached to the object," the report said.
For its part, RMF FM reports that it was the police, not the military, who arrived at the scene.
According to the spokesman for the Operational Command of the Armed Forces, Jacek Goryshevsky, it was most likely a weather balloon.
No one saw the object fall, so we can't say that something fell, that it was a balloon. It will probably become clear what we are dealing with in the near future," said Jacek Wilczewski, a spokesman for the Olsztyn Municipal Police Headquarters.

This is not the first time that objects from the eastern border have flown into Polish territory. In June of this year, a Russian balloon flew into Polish airspace and moved eastward through the Warmia and Mazury Voivodeship.
Similar incidents occurred in March of this year, and at the end of June 2023, when a farmer discovered a balloon with Russian inscriptions near the village of Penzhno.
