The law introduces criminal liability for smuggling of excisable goods worth liability for smuggling of excisable goods worth from UAH 1.136 to 2.271 million hryvnias. Such smuggling will be punishable by fines of UAH 340 thousand to 680 thousand UAH or imprisonment for a term of three to six years.
For smuggling of excisable goods worth more than UAH 2.271 million UAH, fines will range from UAH 1.275 million to UAH 2.04 million or imprisonment for a term of six to eleven years, with deprivation of the right to to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years and confiscation of property.
Also, starting July 1, criminal liability will be introduced liability for commodity smuggling will also be introduced on July 1. If the value of smuggled goods is between UAH 7.57 and 15.14 million, a fine of UAH 170 thousand to 425 thousand hryvnias.
Smuggling worth more than UAH 15.14 million will be punishable by a fine in the amount of UAH 850 thousand to UAH 1,275 thousand, or imprisonment from 5 to 10 years with disqualification to hold certain positions.
The law also establishes liability for smuggling of cultural values and weapons, which will be punishable by imprisonment for for a term of 5 to 12 years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years and confiscation of property.
According to the law, pre-trial investigations in criminal proceedings on smuggling will be conducted by detectives of the Bureau of Economic Security.
