Director of the analytical and research center "Institute of the City" Oleksandr Sergienko in a conversation with a UNN correspondent said that according to his version, there is a high probability that the flooding of the Kyiv subway was caused by the construction of the Ocean Plaza shopping center.
After the subway was launched, a huge shopping center Ocean Plaza was built right above this line. And all this could have affected the condition of the subway tunnel, because it was hundreds of tons of concrete that were poured. It's a huge weight, ground subsidence, and it's also a very dangerous factor in any large construction project in Kyiv.
Details
There may be several reasons for the flooding of the tunnel of the "blue" metro line. One of them is the very complex geological structure on which Kyiv stands.
The whole of Kyiv is practically a collection of rivers and streams. Officially, we have more than 400 river water bodies. ... That is, Kyiv stands on water. The damage occurred on the largest river, the Lybida. This is where the subway line passes through Lybid.
It is not yet clear whether the damage to the subway tunnel was the result of operation, designers' or metro builders' mistakes, or geology. However, the director of the City Institute believes that in this case, natural factors are secondary.
He suggests that the main cause of the incident was the Ocean Plaza shopping center, which stands directly above the area where the deformation processes occurred.
According to him, landslides could have occurred as a result of the construction of the center, which damaged the metro tunnel.
To recap.
The closure of the "blue" line of the Kyiv metro due to flooding led to the launch of alternative ground transportation routes and changes in traffic, including the revision of traffic signals and the postponement of stops to prevent a traffic collapse.
