Two-time russian Olympic champion Abdulrashid Sadulayev was not allowed to participate in the 2024 Olympics because he supports a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. UNN reports with reference to the statement of the International Federation of Greco-Roman Wrestling United World Wrestling.
Details
Abdulrashid Sadulayev was excluded from the European OG qualification in Baku because he does not meet the selection criteria established by the International Olympic Committee for individual neutral athletes
It is noted that Sadulayev was declared ineligible after the commission found new information about his support for the Ukrainian-russian war and that he was still officially declared a member of the Dynamo club.
Addendum
The Federation emphasized that each individual neutral athlete undergoes a rigorous UWW vetting process in preparation for any tournament and is screened based on criteria established by the IOC, which includes a thorough check of the biographical data and social networks of individuals from russia and belarus.
The wrestlers who have been recognized as eligible will compete as individual neutral athletes, without any flags or references to their countries.
In addition, the national anthems of russia and belarus will not be played during the awarding of medals to these athletes.
Recall
The Ministry of Youth and Sports, the NOC of Ukraine, and the Wrestling Association of Ukraine reported on russian athletes who support the war in Ukraine but were allowed to participate in the 2024 Olympics qualifiers, calling for measures to prevent their participation due to violations of neutrality.
