The Vinnytsia City Court has remanded in custody without the possibility of bail a 52-year-old serviceman suspected of murder and attempted murder of police officers in Vinnytsia region. This was reported by the court, UNN reports.
A court hearing was held in the Naval Forces of Ukraine, during which the investigating judge considered the prosecution's request to impose a preventive measure in the form of detention on the man suspected of committing criminal offenses under Part 1 of Article 263, Article 348 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
"Based on the results of the trial, the court imposed on the suspect a preventive measure in the form of detention for a period of 60 days," the statement said.
It is reported that the court found that on April 20 at about 2 am in the Haysyn district of Vinnytsia region, police officers stopped a vehicle that was moving in the oncoming lane, violating the curfew.
The vehicle was stopped for inspection. During the inspection, the police officer noticed that the stopped car had a significant load on the axle, and therefore asked the driver to open the luggage compartment. However, it was not the driver but a passenger of the vehicle who came out at the police officer's lawful request and opened the luggage compartment, which contained suspicious boxes and other military property. Subsequently, upon the police officer's lawful request to open the boxes, the passenger struck the latter on the head, causing the police officer to fall to the ground and lose consciousness.
Another patrol policeman, who was near the car, quickly oriented himself and used his service weapon, but the attackers opened fire on the police and fled the scene.
As a result of the suspect's actions, one police officer died at the scene, and another was hospitalized with a concussion and a gunshot wound.

According to the investigation, on April 20, at night, the suspects killed one police officer, injured another and fled the scene. Law enforcement officers tracked them down and detained them in accordance with Article 208 of the CPC of Ukraine in the village of Lypetske, Podil district, Odesa region.
Subsequently, the two servicemen were notified of suspicion of murder and attempted murder of police officers in Vinnytsia region.
The SBI is investigating the desertion of the servicemen involved in the shooting of law enforcement officers in Vinnytsia region on April 20.
