The Security Service of Ukraine has served a notice of suspicion to a pastor-agent of the Russian Federal Security Service who recruited his sons to spy on the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the SBU said.

The Security Service of Ukraine has served a notice of suspicion to a pastor-agent of the Russian Federal Security Service who, according to the special service, recruited his sons to spy on the Armed Forces of Ukraine, UNN reports, citing the SBU report.

Details

"The SBU military counterintelligence exposed an FSB agent group operating in Donetsk and Ternopil regions. The resident (leader) of the enemy cell was a pastor of a Protestant church," the SBU reported on social media.

In the summer of 2023, he left Ukraine for the EU as a father of many children, and from there, according to the SBU, "arrived in Russia, where he began working for the FSB." "He recruited his two adult sons to work for Russia," the special service said.

"One of them is a contract soldier of one of the combat brigades, who was detained by the SBU in April 2024. He was trying to pass on to the Russian special service the locations of firing positions and fortifications of the Defense Forces. The second son was detained recently in Ternopil region, where he was reconnoitering air defense positions and locations of training centers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine," the SBU said.

According to the special service, "it has been established that the father of the correctors was in direct contact with Sergei Karnaukhov, a Russian propagandist and undercover FSB officer.

The "resident pastor of the Russian special service" was reportedly notified in absentia of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 (high treason committed under martial law) of the Criminal Code. "Since the traitor is hiding in Russia, comprehensive measures are being taken to bring him to justice," the special service added.

The criminal actions of his sons are reportedly classified under Part 2 and Part 3 of Article 114-2 (unauthorized dissemination of information on the sending, movement of weapons, armaments and ammunition to Ukraine, movement, movement or deployment of the Armed Forces or other military formations formed in accordance with the laws of Ukraine, committed under martial law) of the Criminal Code.

Both offenders are in custody. They face 8 to 12 years in prison.
