There is a gradual improvement in water quality in the Dnipro River, where oil products leaked due to the russian attack on the Dnipro hydroelectric power plant. UNN reports this with reference to the Ministry of Environment.

Details

According to the results of studies conducted by the laboratories of the State Agency of Ukraine for Water Resources and the State Environmental Inspectorate, as of March 24, a gradual improvement in the water quality of the Dnipro River was recorded

- the statement said.

Внаслідок атаки на Дніпровську ГЕС стався витік нафтопродуктів у Дніпро22.03.24, 13:50

It is reported that the results of the analysis revealed:

  • exceeding the oil content at two sampling sites, namely on the right bank at a distance of 1.4 km from the Dnipro HPP - by 4.2 times; and at a distance of 2.5 km from the Dnipro HPP - by 2.9 times;
  • - at a distance of 4.4 km from the Dniprovska HPP - no exceedances of oil products are recorded;
  • Increase in the hydrogen index (pH) from 8.63 to 8.75 pH units, while the norm is 6.5-8.5. Such values indicate water hardness and do not pose a risk to the public. This can affect the quality properties of water, such as taste, and provoke the appearance of sediment.
  • Only one territorial community, Bilenkivska, takes water from the lower reaches of the Dnipro River for drinking water supply. Water samples were taken in the area of the drinking water intake of the village of Bilenke downstream, 30 km from the Dnipro HPP. As of yesterday, the concentration of oil products was recorded there in excess of 2.12 times.

The Ministry of Ecology reminded that on behalf of Minister Ruslan Strilts, the State Agency of Ukraine for Water Resources and the State Ecological Inspectorate are conducting constant monitoring until the situation is fully stabilized and the consequences are eliminated. Samples are being taken at the damaged site and in the most accessible areas of the Dnipro River at a distance of one, one and a half and two kilometers below the dam.

Addendum

Yuriy Belousov, head of the OGP's department for combating crimes in the context of armed conflict, said that eight missiles hit the Dnipro HPP, so the damage to the facility is very significant.
