Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has admitted responsibility for the airstrike that killed seven people working for the World Central Kitchen (WCK) charity organization in Gaza.

This was reported by UNN , citing Tagesschau and Haaretz.

Details

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Tuesday that the Israeli airstrike that killed seven people working for the World Central Kitchen (WCK) charity in Gaza was unintentional and "tragic.

The Israeli military expressed "sincere regret" over the incident, which was widely condemned. The IDF announced the launch of an investigation with the participation of an independent and professional commission of experts.

This will help us reduce the risk of a similar incident happening again

- said army spokesman Daniel Hagari.

He also said that he had spoken with WCK founder Jose Andres and expressed the IDF's "deepest condolences to the families and the entire WCK family.

The Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported that the armed forces attacked the aid convoy on Monday evening on suspicion that it was carrying a terrorist.

The unit responsible for securing the road the convoy was traveling on had earlier detected an armed man on the truck. The truck, which was accompanied by WCK vehicles, drove into the warehouse. A few minutes later, the three vehicles of the humanitarian organization left the warehouse again - but without the truck, which allegedly contained an armed man.

An Israeli drone finally fired three missiles at the convoy, one after the other. The truck was attacked first, followed by one of the other two vehicles. The survivors took the wounded to the third vehicle, which was also attacked.

"World Central Kitchen confirmed the movement of a convoy of two armored vehicles with the humanitarian organization's logo and one unarmored vehicle. The organization reported the deaths of seven of its employees.

This is not only an attack on WCK, it is an attack on humanitarian organizations that appear in the most horrific situations when food is used as a weapon of war. This is inexcusable

- said Erin Gore, executive director of World Central Kitchen.
