The UN Human Rights Council will discuss a report containing shocking evidence of russian war crimes in Ukraine, including torture, murder, rape, illegal detention, forced deportation and attacks on cultural sites.

On March 19, the UN Human Rights Council will discuss the second report of the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on violations in Ukraine. This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, according to UNN.

The commission's report collected additional evidence of serious violations and international crimes committed by the russian authorities in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.

The report's findings are shocking in their brutality: torture, premeditated murder, rape and other crimes of sexual violence, illegal deprivation of liberty of civilians, enforced disappearances, illegal deportation of Ukrainian children, attacks and destruction of cultural and historical heritage sites.

These findings confirm the Commission's previous conclusions that the systematic torture of both Ukrainian civilians and prisoners of war constitutes war crimes against Ukrainians.

It is important to note that the report examines the consequences of the hostilities and the siege of Mariupol, recording numerous casualties and the destruction of civilian objects.

Therefore, the Commission's conclusions emphasize the need to continue the investigation, in particular with a view to more detailed qualification of the serious international crimes committed by the russian federation against the Ukrainian people. This information should form the basis for further consideration in international courts and tribunals.

We call on the international community to continue systemic pressure on russia to put an end to russian aggression, atrocities and terror, to ensure that russian criminals are brought to justice, to demand access to illegally detained Ukrainian civilians for international monitoring organizations and humanitarian missions, and to release and exchange prisoners of war

- the statement said.
