Kyivstar mobile subscribers have been blocked from accessing national roaming amid a cyberattack and network failure to avoid overloading other networks, the State Special Communications Service said on Wednesday, UNN reported.

To avoid overloading other operators' networks, at the request of the SBU, the National Center for Operational and Technical Management of Telecommunications Networks issued an order to temporarily block the national roaming service for Kyivstar subscribers, the service said.

CERT-UA specialists are reportedly investigating a cyberattack on the Kyivstar network.

"Yesterday, December 12, a powerful cyberattack was carried out on the information systems of Kyivstar PrJSC, which resulted in blocking the operation of the main services of the company's technological network, which led to interruptions in the provision of services to users. Specialists of the government's computer emergency response team CERT-UA, which operates under the State Special Communications Service, together with colleagues from the SBU and representatives of the telecom operator are working to investigate the cyber incident," the agency said.

As noted, the responsibility for the cyberattack was claimed by one of the Russian groups, whose activities are associated with the main department of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces (formerly GRU). This once again confirms Russia's use of cyberspace as one of the domains of war against Ukraine.

The National Coordination Center for Cybersecurity at the National Security and Defense Council called on citizens to remain calm and use Wi-Fi networks as much as possible, and public institutions to make their Wi-Fi networks available to all users.

As a reminder,

Yesterday Kyivstar said that due to a technical failure in the network, there were problems with access to mobile communications and the Internet. "Kyivstar attributed the large-scale outage to a powerful hacker attack . Today, Kyivstar mobile operator plans to restore fixed-line internet for households and launch mobile and internet services.

Specialists of the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection are investigating the incident of a hacker attack on the Kyivstar mobile operator's network.

One of the Russian pseudo-hacker groups claims responsibility for yesterday's attack on Kyivstar mobile operator.
