Details

The Podilskyi District Court of Kyiv sentenced two men who beat and set fire to a stranger to 14 years in prison, finding them guilty of premeditated murder.

In May 2021, passers-by reported to the police that a man was burning in an unfinished building on Heorhiy Gongadze Avenue. The victim was a 41-year-old local resident. He was hospitalized in critical condition with fractured ribs and burns to 80% of his body. The man died in the hospital from his injuries.

On the same day, police detained two Kyiv residents born in 1997 and 2002. It was established that the stepson of one of the detainees had a conflict with the victim. When he told his stepfather about the incident, he and his friend decided to take revenge.

The accomplices found the man in an unfinished building, severely beat him, and then doused him with a flammable substance and set him on fire.

Under the leadership of the Podil District Prosecutor's Office, investigators charged the two men with premeditated murder committed by a group of people in advance and with particular cruelty. Both suspects were in custody during the investigation.
