A source familiar with the case confirmed that five people have been were taken into police custody, but said nothing about what the five are suspected of.
According to the source, the arrests took place on Friday in Nancy and two other cities in the Meurthe and Moselle departments in northern France.
Another source claims that the five belong to to the Islamist movement. Interior Minister Gerald Darmanen on Friday called on local authorities to be "very vigilant" in connection with the Christmas and Epiphany celebrations in the new year due to "a very high terrorist threat, that still exists."
