An ex-military officer of the Berkut battalion of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in Kharkiv region, who brutally tortured participants of the Revolution of Dignity, has been sentenced to 6 years in prison. This was reported by the Prosecutor General's Office, UNN reports.

Details

With this verdict, the court of appeal overturned the acquittal of the Dniprovskyi District Court of Kyiv. During the new appeal hearing, prosecutors proved the former Berkut officer, who is an active police officer, guilty of torture (part 2 of Article 127 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The convict deliberately committed violent acts against two participants of the Revolution of Dignity.

Then both protesters were thrown off the colonnade. Also, one of them, who was a minor at the time, was stripped naked in -12°C temperatures and stabbed in the thigh of his right leg with a knife. After that, he was sprayed with pepper liquid and forced to walk naked through a group of law enforcement officers while singing the Ukrainian anthem.

This was done to punish the victims for their participation in the protests, as well as to intimidate and discriminate against them and others.
