Bad weather in southern Ukraine: almost fifty accidents on the roads of Odesa region

In the Odesa region, 48 road accidents occurred due to unfavorable weather conditions; police and rescuers responded to the incidents, with no fatalities or hospitalizations. Due to snow and ice, the movement of heavy vehicles was temporarily banned on major roads.

Due to a significant deterioration in weather conditions in Odesa region, traffic on the roads is hampered - police have already received 48 reports of accidents, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reports UNN.

Details 

The ministry explains that traffic  on the roads is hampered by snow, limited visibility, ice and gusts of strong wind. Law enforcement officers are working on all difficult sections and providing assistance.

As of 11 a.m., police received 48 reports of road accidents, no one was killed or hospitalized. Most accidents in the Bilyayiv and Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi directions involved trucks and buses

  - the National Police summarized.

Law enforcement officials add that one of the buses, which was moving from Sofia in the direction of Izmail, slid into a ditch near the village of Orlivka, Reni community, with 19 passengers and two drivers unharmed. 

The police took them in their vehicle to a local school, where they are being sheltered and assisted.

Addendum 

The Main Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Odesa region notes that rescuers have already made 30 visits. The State Emergency Service currently involves 32 vehicles and 110 rescuers. 

As a reminder

In Odesa region due to snow and ice today, starting at 8:30 a.m., traffic for heavy vehicles was temporarily blocked on the public roads of national importance M-15 Odesa-Reni (to Bucharest) and M-28 Odesa - Yuzhne - /M-14/ (bypassing Odesa).
