The European Union countries are unlikely to use the "nuclear option" because of Prime Minister Viktor Orban's position on Ukraine. This was stated by Mykhailo Podolyak, an adviser to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, on the air of the TV channel "We-Ukraine," UNN reports.
He commented on media reports that the European Union could theoretically suspend Hungary's right to vote on EU decisions. According to him, the EU is unlikely to use a radical option, because "the countries of Europe did not unite to separate now".
"We see from time to time how certain EU member states use the element of blackmail to get something outside the rules of the European Union. That is why the EU, especially today, when we see all the events that are taking place both in terms of allocating additional financial assistance and starting negotiations on Ukraine's accession, will have to find tools to force certain countries not to block it within the framework of the discussion," Podolyak explained.
The advisor to the head of the OP added that not only in Ukraine, but also in the whole of Eastern Europe, the crisis is ongoing and spreading to other EU countries. Therefore, in such a period, the EU should look for options to ensure that certain decisions are not blocked.
As a reminder, Hungary blocked military aid to Ukraine in the amount of 500 million euros under the European Peace Fund.
