The US Air Force said on Tuesday that it had successfully tested an airborne hypersonic weapon in the Pacific Ocean, UNN reports citing Reuters.

Details

The test was conducted on Sunday after a B-52 bomber left the island of Guam with an airborne rapid response weapon (ARRW), the US Air Force said in a statement.

Although the US Air Force called the test a success, it did not disclose the speed of the weapon. During previous tests, the ARRW flew at least five times faster than the speed of sound.

Addendum

The United States is not alone in developing hypersonic weapons, whose speed and maneuverability make them difficult to track and intercept.

According to the US military, Russia has launched hypersonic missiles at targets in Ukraine, and China has tested hypersonic weapons. In October, China's Foreign Ministry denied that the weapons were tested.
