Ukraine's Ukrenergo has been using emergency electricity from Romania and Poland due to a shortage of local capacity amid rising consumption. Emergency power is more expensive and not always available.

Due to the shortage of capacity in the Ukrainian power system on December 11, the Ukrenergo Dispatch Center used emergency assistance from two countries. This is reported by the press service of Ukrenergo, according to UNN.

Details

The agency said that for the fifth day in a row the level of consumption is growing, and the capacity of Ukrainian power plants is not enough to cover it.

To maintain the schedule and keep the balance in the power system, the Ukrenergo Dispatch Center used emergency assistance from Romania from 10:00 to 17:00 and from 11:00 to 14:00 from Poland

- summarized in Ukrenergo.

At the same time, Ukrenergo warned that emergency assistance is more expensive than electricity from planned supplies.

In addition, emergency aid may be denied - neighboring countries do not always have free capacity to support Ukraine.

Addendum

To avoid blackouts and maintain the balance in the power system, Ukrenergo asks Ukrainians to reduce electricity consumption.

In addition, the agency addressed large consumers - shopping and entertainment centers.

The Christmas and New Year holidays have not yet arrived, so festive illuminations may not yet operate at 100% capacity. Less lighting of shop windows during the daytime will also be supported

- Ukrenergo said in a statement.

As a reminder,

Ukraine's Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko said that while blackouts could occurif the power grid is critically damaged, any power outages are expected to be temporary.
