The introduction of shuttle trains between Teremky and Demiivska metro stations will not be able to radically improve the traffic situation in Kyiv because it can carry only 4 out of 15 thousand passengers per hour. Transport expert Oleksandr Hrechko told this to a UNN correspondent.
This will not change the situation critically in a positive way, because the "shuttle traffic" is capable of providing several times less passenger traffic than the standard mode of the subway
"There is a need to transport about 15 thousand passengers per hour, and now, in the shuttle mode, it is 2 thousand passengers one way," the expert added.
Details
Repair work on the "blue line" of the Kyiv metro has significantly affected the number of traffic jams as additional ground public transport has been launched and some people who usually use the metro have switched to taxis or their own cars.
According to Oleksandr Grechko, the "shuttle service" of trains between Teremky and Demiivska stations will somewhat reduce the load on alternative public transport, "but it does not change the situation dramatically, because the main flow of people will still go by bus," the expert explains.
He also noted that the current passenger transportation system is "more or less working normally" because there are no air alerts.
"If there are air raids, it will mean that people will be blocked and will not be able to travel by public transport, because it will stop."
To recap,
Due to repair works in the Kyiv subway, a "shuttle service" of trains was launched between Teremky and Demiivska metro stations in Kyiv with intervals of 13 and 17 minutes.
Alternative routes of ground transportation were also launched, which completely duplicate the route of the metro stations.
