The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine will consider a bill to abolish daylight saving time at the next plenary week.

The Verkhovna Rada is expected to consider in the second reading a bill to abolish daylight saving time and vice versa at the next plenary week. This was announced on Thursday by MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak, UNN reports.

According to the preliminary agenda, in the next plenary week, the Rada will consider in the second reading the Speaker's draft law #4201, which provides for the abolition of daylight saving time in Ukraine and vice versa

- Zheleznyak wrote on Telegram.

"This is a very good initiative and I will support it," Zheleznyak said.

We would like to add that the second reading of the draft law is expected; in the past, it was not supported and was sent back for revision.

Details

The legislative act proposes that time in Ukraine will be calculated in accordance with Kyiv time, which is the same for the entire territory of Ukraine.

According to the draft law, Kyiv time is the time of the time zone in which the capital of Ukraine, the city of Kyiv, is located, which corresponds to the second time zone in the UTC+2 scale.

In addition, according to the document, seasonal time change is not carried out on the territory of the state.

According to the initiators, the draft law is aimed at protecting public health, as most scientists and doctors believe that the annual resetting of clocks by one hour forward and backward has a number of negative consequences, causing a significant deterioration in the health of citizens during the period of adaptation to "summer" and "winter" time.

For reference

It is worth noting that Ukrainians have repeatedly called on the authorities to cancel the transition to winter and summer time - to stop "twisting the hands" of the clock.

After the vote, the European Commission proposed that EU countries abandon the seasonal change of clocks in 2019 and individually choose winter or summer time as a permanent time.

Thus, starting in 2021, each EU member state will be able to choose whether to keep the current time-saving system or abandon it altogether.
