Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets has sent official letters to the UN and ICRC to have the organizations record the numerous killings of disarmed Ukrainian prisoners of war by Russian soldiers. He said this while commenting on a video in which Russians brutally shot Ukrainian prisoners of war in the Zaporizhzhya sector, UNN reports.
"Russian soldiers have committed another war crime - they brutally shot our prisoners of war in the Zaporizhzhya sector. This is confirmed by video. About ten shots were fired at unarmed people. This is another recorded war crime for which there must be accountability. And another fact of violation by the Russians of the Geneva Conventions and international humanitarian law, which are regularly violated by the Russian Federation - from ordinary soldiers to military leaders who do not prohibit the killing and execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war.
He said that he had once again sent official letters to the UN and the ICRC to have the organizations record the numerous killings of disarmed Ukrainian prisoners of war by Russian soldiers.
"There must be punishment for all crimes committed on our land and against our people!" the Ombudsman emphasized.
