The EU Council has added the Russian company PJSC Alrosa and its CEO Pavel Marynychev to the EU sanctions list, UNN reports, citing a report on the website of the European institution.

Details

"Today, the Council of the European Union introduced additional restrictive measures against one person and one organization responsible for actions undermining or threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. The new listings target Alrosa PJSC and its CEO Pavel Alekseevich Marynychev," the statement reads.

As noted, PJSC Alrosa is the largest diamond mining company in the world, owned by the Russian state and accounting for more than 90% of all Russian diamond production, and the company is an important part of the economic sector that provides significant revenues for the Russian government.

These sanctions are reportedly in addition to the ban on imports of Russian diamonds included in the 12th EU sanctions package adopted on December 18, 2023 in connection with Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine.

The ban on Russian diamonds is part of the G7's efforts to develop an internationally coordinated diamond ban aimed at depriving Russia of this important source of revenue.

"The relevant legal acts, including the names of individuals and legal entities included in the list, are published in the Official Journal of the EU," the European institution said.
