Ukraine is ready to adopt a system of licensing agricultural exports to Poland to solve problems with agricultural exports, with talks between the two countries at an advanced stage and expected to continue this week.

Ukraine is ready for an agricultural export control system to provide Poland with a guarantee, Ukrainian Minister of Agrarian Policy Mykola Solsky said, UNN reports citing Le Monde.

We are ready to adopt an export licensing system for products destined for Poland, but only for four types of grain. We already have a similar system with Romania and Bulgaria

- Solsky said in an interview with AFP on Monday ahead of a meeting in Brussels with his counterparts from 27 EU countries.

"On Wednesday, there will be a meeting of Ukrainian and Polish agricultural organizations, in which I will participate with my Polish counterpart," before "a joint meeting of the governments (of the two countries) on Thursday," Solsky said.

According to the PAP news agency, Polish Minister of Development and Technology Krzysztof Hetman assured on Monday that negotiations with Ukraine are "at a very advanced stage, already at the stage of creating sensitive products" for this licensing system before reaching the long-awaited conclusion "this week.

Solsky, as indicated, is more cautious: "I cannot predict what will happen in Warsaw this week. I would like to be optimistic, but I have to be realistic.

Addendum

Since February, Polish farmers have been blocking checkpoints on the border with Ukraine to protest "unfair" competition due to food coming from Ukraine, which is exempt from duties by the European Union since 2022, the publication points out. And Warsaw, as noted, is calling for restrictions on Ukrainian grain after a unilateral embargo is imposed on it in 2023. The two neighbors are looking for a way out of the situation.
