A former employee of a local defense plant in Mykolaiv region was detained for attempting to reveal the location of Ukrainian air defense systems to Russian intelligence.

In Mykolaiv region, law enforcement officers detained a former employee of a local defense plant who tried to identify the combat positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine's air defense systems. UNN reports this with reference to the SBU press service.

Details

The detainee reportedly used unmanned aerial vehicles equipped with video recording cameras to track the locations of Ukrainian air defense.

He used a messenger to transmit the information to a Russian special service "contact". He turned out to be a former member of the disbanded Berkut special police unit, who is currently in Crimea and cooperating with the occupiers.

Rashists planned to use the information to prepare sabotage and missile strikes in the region, including to fire on Ukrainian air defense systems

- the SBU said in a statement.

The SBU exposed the Russian informant at the beginning of his intelligence activity. This allowed the SBU to document the suspect step by step and secure the locations of the Armed Forces units in advance.

The offender was detained in his own home. During a search of his home, the SBU seized reconnaissance drones that he used to gather intelligence. The SBU also found substances used for the artisanal production of explosives.

According to available data, an enemy accomplice could have been preparing to blow up the objects of the Defense Forces that were captured on the cameras of his drones

- the SBU said.

Law enforcement officers found that the attacker was a former employee of a local defense plant. He came to the attention of the occupiers through the publication of his own comments in Russian Telegram channels, where he supported the war against Ukraine.

SBU investigators served the detainee a notice of suspicion under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The offender is in custody. He faces up to 12 years in prison.
