Court extends arrest of MP Shufrich until December 5

Kyiv's Shevchenkivskyi Court has extended the detention of MP Nestor Shufrych until December 5. The defense asked to change the measure of restraint, but the court rejected the motion.
The Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv has extended the pre-trial restraint for Nestor Shufrych, an MP from the banned Opposition Platform - For Life party, who is accused of treason. He was left in custody until December 5. Although Shufrych's defense requested a change in the measure of restraint, UNN reports with reference to Suspilne.
The defense claimed that the suspicion against Shufrich was not substantiated and there was no evidence base. The lawyers requested a non-custodial measure of restraint.
"He's been in jail for 14 months without a conviction. He was more useful in the parliament. He has a number of diseases, just like his father. There are grounds to reconsider the decision, any measure of restraint, to fulfill their decisions," the lawyer said.
Also on November 14, Shevchenkivskyi court considered a preventive measure for Shufrych's former aide, Viacheslav Cherepanya. He asked the court for round-the-clock house arrest.
"I want to establish my innocence and return the property you took," Cherepani said.
The prosecutor objected: "The suspicion is justified, the risks have not diminished. Therefore, the preventive measure of detention should be extended.
